Hundreds gather in support of Hunter offshore wind

On Sunday, 4th February 2024, hundreds of locals gathered at the Newcastle Foreshore for the Rally for Hunter Offshore Wind, showcasing the community’s keen support for offshore wind power to lead the industrial future of the region.

The central theme of support for the rally was the rich opportunity offshore wind offers for the Hunter's future; the creation of quality, secure jobs, regional economic growth and prosperity, and crucial environmental benefit.

Joining workers, doctors, teachers, and environmental activists in attendance were representatives from several community groups, including Hunter Workers, Business Hunter, Australian Conservation Foundation, Hunter Jobs Alliance, and unions including the MUA, CFMEU Construction, NTEU, AMWU, ETU, PSA, NSWTF, ASU, USU, CPSU and more.

Australian Conservation Foundation CEO Kelly O’Shanassy said, “The responsible deployment of large-scale renewable energy projects is vital for the Hunter so energy intensive businesses can stay in the region, local workers have access to ongoing jobs and we all benefit from a safer climate.”
